Dominican Tradition and Justice and Peace Lecture Series, Part 1.

The Concept Note of the Webinar. Background: The alarming escalation of violence and many acts of injustices in our state, and even among us as a Province and as a family, presents us the opportunity to reflect on Dominican Religious Vocation and Justice Ministry. How can we as preachers of the Good News, in our prophetic mission of forth-telling, not be disturbed by the many acts of injustices going on around us? While acts of violence, injustice and conflict are not new, its escalation and the seeming silence of Dominicans in Nigeria in the faces of violence, injustice and conflict demands a rediscovery, a re-examination, and a re-vitalization of the role of Dominicans in justice ministry. The re-discovery, re-examination, and re-vitalization of the role of Dominicans in justice ministry is not only timely but essential to every Dominican – since as preachers of the Good News, the promotion of justice and peace is at the heart of the Dominican life. Project Goals To address this urgent situation, Dominicans for Justice and Peace, Nigeria and Ghana plans a day webinar towards the re-discovery, re-examination, and re-vitalization of the role of Dominicans in justice ministry. The webinar is aimed at re-awakening the consciousness of the friars, the sisters, the Dominican laity, and the Dominican Young Hearts Movement regarding their role(s) in the Nigerian society. Following this re-awakening, the members of the Dominican are expected to be conscious of their roles as Dominicans in justice ministry and hence re-integrate concerns for justice and peace in their various apostolates.
